Founder of Spark & Settle and passionate about helping children build confidence, understand emotions and discover their own strengths through creative learning.
Hello, my name is Emma and I’m the founder of Spark & Settle. Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about me and why I created Spark & Settle. People often ask what inspired me to start Spark & Settle, and the answer is simple—it’s something that’s deeply personal to me. I’m autistic and have ADHD, and throughout my life I’ve experienced first-hand how difficult it can be to understand and manage my own emotions. As a parent to two autistic and ADHD children, I’ve also seen first-hand how difficult it can be when children experience big feelings but don’t yet have the words, understanding or tools to make sense of them. Through our home education journey, I’ve met many wonderful families and had the opportunity to see how valuable emotional education can be for children. I truly believe that understanding emotions is an important life skill, and that every child should have the opportunity to learn about their emotions in a fun, engaging and practical way. That passion led me to spend years expanding my knowledge through study, training and research. I wanted to ensure I had the right understanding, skills and experience to create educational sessions that families could trust.
🎓 Qualifications & Experience: I have higher education in Psychology and Counselling, along with Level 2 qualifications in Understanding Autism, Understanding Behaviour that Challenges, and Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health. I have also completed CPD-certified Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults training and UK Government Prevent Awareness training. I hold an Enhanced DBS check, First Aid certification and Public Liability Insurance. Alongside my professional qualifications, I also bring lived experience. Being neurodivergent has given me a unique perspective that influences every Spark & Settle session. I understand that every child is unique, learns differently and experiences emotions in their own way. That’s why my sessions are calm, flexible, inclusive and designed to meet children where they are.
At the heart of Spark & Settle is a passion for helping children understand their emotions, build confidence and develop practical skills they can use in everyday life. Through games, creative activities, discussion and hands-on learning, children explore what emotions are, why we experience them, how emotions can affect our thoughts, bodies and behaviour, and practical strategies they can use in everyday life. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a child leave a session with greater confidence, curiosity and emotional understanding. Knowing they have learned something that may help them long after the session has finished is exactly why I created Spark & Settle. Creating Spark & Settle has been a dream of mine for many years, and I feel incredibly grateful to now be sharing it with families. Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I look forward to welcoming you and your child to Spark & Settle.
